Ever since the Obama Administration has taken office it seems that our country has taken a step down. Our nation's security is in question. Our military force has been hard hit not just by the implications of war but by our own Commander in Chief through military cuts and not to mention the V.A.'s failure to meet veteran's needs. The Border Crisis is another impending challenge that doesn't seem to end. This is a very important issue that if left unresolved leaves a negative impression on other countries about us. The health care reform which was poorly carried out seems more like a punishment than a benefit. It only benefits a few people, and inflicts pain on the rest.
Our nation has become a nation of entitlement. For example the Presidents idea of the redistribution of wealth is just appalling. People work hard in this country to get where they are. They should not be punished for becoming self reliant and self sufficient. Instead of the President promoting self reliance he is promoting the belief of entitlement. Work is an essential component in this life to obtain one's needs, and to build self confidence. There is no greater feeling than that of accomplishing ones goals. Giving handouts to those who are able to work and provide for themselves limits their potential growth. There is no benefit to that unless you are enabling them to get out of the situation.
Our nation is a great nation because of the Constitution on which it stands and the freedoms that we fight heavily to protect. There is no need to uproot it or change it. The duty of our President is to sustain that document and predecessors who wrote it.

To answer the title of the post: yes. I feel that the Framers of our Constitution would be amazed to see the amount of informal powers that have been given to the president.
However, I disagree with the amount of scrutiny that is being placed on our current president. Our country is over 200 years old so it is without doubt that he, like other presidents, have inherited a slew of problems when entering office. In class we had discussed how legislation can continue to have an impact on events up to 30 years after and I feel that faulty legislation is why our veterans' programs are so ineffective. A broken health care system is also to blame as to why veterans aren't able to gain access to their supposed guaranteed benefits. Yet, the proponents of the Affordable Health Care Act fail to see that the Obama Administration was trying to solve a more widespread issue and hopefully veterans wouldn't have to see a 'broker', the V.A., to have healthcare because it would be one's right as a citizen and not just a veteran.
The redistribution of wealth is a completely different issue and his main stance was on changing tax brackets and definitely not giving 'hand outs'. Even if he were to provide more funding to social services there would be no giving 'entitlement' because anyone and everyone deserves to have food, education and a safe place to live regardless of the situation they are in. These are basic human rights that unfortunately aren't met without the help of our government, plain and simple. In fact, these programs desperately need to be expanded because the disproportional distribution of wealth in this country has most of its population in the clutches of poverty or right on the edge of poverty.
In one of the recent blog by one of my classmates, she criticized our current President and his administration. Even though I agree with her that our President hasn't been doing what he has promised, and the country isn't what it use to be, but we can't blame everything on him. We need to look at the big picture here, every President before him has left some problems behind for the next guy in office. Some of the problems we are facing right now are dated back for decades.
A country can't growth or become the world leader unless it has a great government system and leader. Our country was the greatest country and the strongest. Even though America is only a few hundred years old, we already surpass many countries that were found thousand of years ago. We developed electricity, automotive car, computer; we even landed on the moon. Our military are the strongest, and our economy was one of the strongest economy. This country was the land where dream come true. Where people of any races can find hope, freedom, and opportunity, this is what the Founding Father wanted. This is why they fought England, for freedom and opportunity. They had a purpose, and they fought for it putting their life in danger. George Washington, our first President, was considered one of the greatest President. Then there was Lincoln, during the Civil War. What do they have that the other Presidents don't? They have the courage to stand up for what they believe in, and face obstacles face on. They do what is best for the country and the people.
I feel that we can't blame everything went wrong on the President. Sure he's leading the country, but he isn't the one that making all the decision. Our government also have the Senate and the House; they also have a hand in running this country. They are the one that can votes and passes laws that will either help or ruin this country. Our government consist of three different branches if one branch is corrupt everything will go down. And right now the government as a whole is corrupt, no one is doing the thing that will help the country as a whole. The nation isn't run by the President nor the people anymore. Money and corporation run the nation now, and us, the citizens are too comfortable with what we have to do anything about it.
I agree with everything about this article written by my class colleague Tijuana Whitlock. I don't think our Founders would be very happy to see a president dead set on pushing his agenda even if that means going around the Constitution.
He is very disrespectful to our country's military and veterans. I myself am a veteran and had to wait an incredible amount of time to be taken care of by the V.A. I still have many friends still in the service who are completely fed up with him dismantling our military and handing out pink slips. It's not like our men and women in uniform don't have enough to worry about while fighting terrorists, now they have to worry about losing their jobs, because this president is very dead set about bringing our numbers in service down, even with the growing threats of terrorism.
